Can an American work and live in England for a year

Can an American work and live in England for a year?
I'm an American wanting to live and work in the UK for a year. Just any job, like working at Starbucks for a year. Something small. Is that even possible?? Thanks a ton!

Providing you get a visa and work permit, yes. http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/

No, what you want to do is not possible. There is no casual employment visa available for U.S. citizens. Besides, no employer would go through the lengthy and expensive process to hire someone for a low level job period, let alone just for a year.

Very difficult - these days if you want a work visa to come to the UK you need to be highly skilled - and in a profession where we have shortages. There's no way you'll get a visa without a job offer and I doubt very much if Starbucks would go to the hassle of sponsoring you when there are plenty of people here already looking for work!
