What is it like to live in England

What is it like to live in England?
It seems like a very interesting place to live. I live in the southeastern U.S. It's so boring here. The whole place is filled with swamps and alligators. Where I live, the most historic building is a wood shack. We don't have much excitement here either.

- It's quite expensive - Public transportation actually works - People are friendly - People are fashionable - It is healthier food-wise (everyone is a lot slimmer) - Everything is quite close by. Seriously, you don't need to own a car.

Your question made me laugh. It is an interesting place to live. We have lots of history - that includes our monarchy. We have beautiful countryside and villages We have intersting and historic cities. Our capital,London is diverse and fashionable. Our food is good (despite what you hear) Everywhere is different -we have some spectacular national parks. Nowhere is very far away- including the coastline We have a national health service - free health care. We are in a recession. It rains a lot but sunny British weather is the best in the world. We drink a lot of tea and like cream teas. We enjoy rugby, cricket and soccer etc. Our music is excellent. http://www.nationalparks.gov.uk/ http://www.visitlondon.com/

No swamps and alligators here, just hedge monkeys (new age travellers).

I'm assuming you mean UK. Great Britain is the large island containing England, Scotland and Wales. UK includes Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It's OK. It's expensive We have a Welfare State, so you don't see ghetto areas of very poor people. Some areas are rough but they are quite tiny in area compared to the decent places. Most people live in towns and cities. Some are large conurbations. However, most of the land is rural and quite a few of us live in the countryside. Northern Ireland and the west of Great Britain has hills and mountains. The east has a more rolling landscape. We don't have swamps filled with alligators. However, we have a bit of marshland! It's a tiny country compared to USA but not as small as you might imagine. It takes about seven hours to drive from London to Edinburgh. Our roads are very congested but we drive very fast. There are very old buildings all over the place. Many date back to the Middle Ages. There are also Roman ruins. Sadly, the building boom after WW2 introduced some very bland architecture. Thankfully, more modern developments are mostly more interesting. The weather isn't as bad as many people describe. We have a maritime climate. It brings rain but it's warmer than would be expected for these latitudes. It ensures our fields are green. We can also enjoy lovely sunny weather. The south of England gets very little snow. The UK doesn't suffer killer hurricanes, killer tornadoes etc.

I myself love to live in England because of it's atmosphere and friendliness. Most people are humorous in Britain and we have some strong culture. It does have it's down-side though. It is very expensive with VAT (Value Added Tax) at a record high of 20%. Our traditions are fading because of massive immigration and metrication. Our fuel prices are probably triple the US's fuel prices. Never the less, Britain is extremely interesting because there is history every where you go. In every town you see some really old-fasiond building and houses. Before decimalisation, you used to be able to have hundred-year old coins in your pockets but even now some coins are quite old. The weather can be terrible though but it still does not crush the british spirit.
