If I live in England for a year, will I definitely develop a British accent?

I really want to get one and was wondering if that is a guarantee.

Living in a foregin country for year isn't going to automatically guarantee you with speak their lanugage or carry their accent. I've known Jamaicans who have lived in the United Kingdom for years or in the United States and still carry a Jamaican accent as if they didn't even leave the island. What you can do, however is get a coach or take classes. Yes, they have things like that.

No, Once your reach 8 years old or thereabouts, your accent is pretty much established. You would certainly not pick up the accent in a year (unless you faked it) and it would look ridiculous going home after just a year speaking in a completely different accent. After many years, you will pick up local slang terms in place of ones from where you are originally from, but your accent will be the same. My great aunt and uncle moved from Northern Ireland to Canada in the 1970's and still speak in Northern Ireland accents, there are just the odd few words that they pronounce differently.
