I live in the United States with my fiance. We are interested in living in Europe. What do we need to do in order to get a visa to live in Europe? How long do we need to be in Europe before we can apply for European citizenship?

You can not apply for European Citizenship, at the point of becoming a citizen of a European Union Member State you will become a citizen of the E.U therefore I recommend you look at the individual countries requirements for Rights to Residency.

To get a visa you will need to be sponsored by a company (that can't find someone in the EU to do the job) - easiest would be to be transferred to the UK by a US Company, be of shortage profession e.g nurse, or have a Master's degree and apply for a general work visa - you have to make enough points to get this one and have a degree at Masters level.If you manage to get a visa (and its not easy as the rules have tightened in the credit crunch) you can live in the UK and after 5 years you can apply for Indefinite Leave to remain and after a year apply for a British passport. Before you get that passport you will not have the same rights as a EU citizen and you can't just hop around Europe as your visa will only be valid in the UK.
