You get more for your $ in North America, average house in the UK is 200,000

I thought you claimed your family was rich.

Australia may appear cheaper in house prices but for living, England would be cheaper. Edit: Okay, which is safer? It's clear you have done NO research on these countries. Have you even looked into securing a visa? Obviously, there are safe and unsafe places in both, just like how there in the US you can be shot in some places and smiled at by people in others.

Australia has a high cost of living. We have a tax hungry government so housing is especially expensive. We had a flip from High Tax Rates to Low which brought prices up on housing ridiculously. For a house in Sydney Suburbs your looking at $500k+, city $800k++ and regional at about $300k. But along with the high costs of living come some perks like good health care and generally high average wage. EDIT: Australia is by far the safest.

well I'm English and I can only talk about England or UK as a whole since I don't know much about Australia! If you are looking for a somewhat laid back and more secure life, then south of England is the place to be. The costs of living vary of course,,, you might find a flat to live in for £600 a month going upwards in the south. Slightly more expensive than the north. and forget about London mate,, crowded and well not worth spending hell lot of money there. If you wanna buy properties then, it should not really be that different from average US homes, I guess.
