I mean they speak english they just have some differnet words. Why do they have an accent? if you were born in america then when to england for the rest of your life would you hav an accent? Im confused. Please give very detailed answers if you dont know dont bother.

They have a British accent and although we both speak English, if you ask a Brit, they would say that the Americans are the one with the accent. Have you paid any attention to the way that Madonna speaks now? Her voice totally change and she no longer talks like us Americans anymore....I love it!

I had an English boyfriend and someone told me that someone (a jealous girl) backbit me by saying, "And she copies his accent!" Ha ha, I wasn't even aware of it, but it happened just because I was with him all the time. I mean, I wasn't trying to copy it, but our close association caused it to happen. The English were first obviously, as Americans originally came from England to the colonies. I don't know how we generated our own accent, but we did. I knew a brother and sister from England who moved to this country; she lost her accent, but he didn't. Funny, but that's just how it was and they didn't have an explanation for it either. I do think if you moved to England you would eventually speak like the people with whom you interacted continually.

Why do americans speak with an american accent? Why do australians speak with an australian accent? Its one of the many questions of life. Have some british words and phrases.
