I am looking to become a British citizen and I read that in order to be naturalized, you must "legally" live in England for at least five years. So how do I legally live in England for that length of time? Thanks. Uh thanks for the info "Dark Side" but actually I do know that England is not Britain but everywhere I've read it says "British" citizen not English..

Please note that England is not the UK - Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are part of the UK as well and are all British. You have to get an immigrant visa, which will entitle you to live and work in the UK for two years. This is difficult to get as to qualify for one, you need to be a "highly skilled worker", have money to invest in the UK, or find an employer in the UK who will apply for a work permit for you - see the link below which links to information on all the different types of British visa. If all is going well after those two years, you can apply for further "limited leave to remain". Once you have been in the UK for five years, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain which, as the name states, allows you to live and work in the UK indefinitely. Having held ILR for a year, you can then apply to be naturalised. So in total it usually takes six years. The other way to do it is to marry or enter into a civil partnership (gay marriage) with a British citizen or other person who has the right of UK permanent residence, such as a citizen of another European Union country or a person who already has ILR, and then apply to enter on a marriage visa, or apply for a visa to live in the UK with an unmarried partner with that status whom you have already lived with for at least 2 years. This will normally result in a "fast track" to ILR and the possibility of naturalisation after 5 years living with your partner or husband in the UK. It would actually be much the same answer if I as a Brit asked about legally living in the USA. Both our countries have unemployment problems and don't want to let just anybody in.

you need to apply for settlement (immigrant visa) which gives you ILR status ILR = indefinite leave to remain (in UK) (in USA this is permanent residency)
